Happy Last Quarter Moon!
Joanna Macy led a workshop for climate change activists May 10-11, 2005 in Oxford. My description began five weeks ago, so if this is your first issue, you may wish to start there.
Part V: Going Forth
The afternoon of our second and final day of the workshop was all about looking forward...
So many times we go to really stimulating events but then get home and feel drained and disconnected from what went on. We have no sense of what to DO with what we've learned.
Not so for this workshop.
On our own sheets of paper, we answered FIVE QUESTIONS.
- As of this moment, if you were in touch with all the power that is there for you in the web of life, what would you do in The Great Turning? What comes up for you? What calls you to do the work of The Great Turning?
- We turn the lens and get more specific now. What would you like to accomplish within a year? What specifically is calling you to be done within this next year?
- This next part is the most fun, perhaps the most important. It's an inventory. What resources do you have, inner and outer, for doing the work of The Great Turning? (It's helpful to sometimes step outside yourself to see what qualities and strengths you have.)
- What resources do you still need to acquire to do this work?
- The last question. What steps can you take to move forward in this goal in the next three days, no matter how small the step, even if it's just a phone call or holding a conversation?
Then we were asked to find somebody else to share these answers with – advised that it'd be good if the person is in your life and connected to your work.
I am happy to report that I ended up partnering with Joanna herself! And next week, serendipitously on the New Moon, I'll tell you all about my new project, which has received her blessing! :)
