Dear Moonscriber,
Happy Full Moon!
Joanna Macy led a workshop for climate change activists May 10-11, 2005 in Oxford. My description began four weeks ago, so if this is your first issue, you may wish to start there.
Part IVb: Seeing with New Eyes: Time
Last week we looked at Chris Johnstone's talk on new ways of seeing power. This week, time.
One way of thinking about time is that it's static... fixed... solid.
This leads to that "inner power cut."
An example of this type of thinking is: "Human nature is always this this; it'll never change."
This type of thinking is also more common in depression.
But time doesn't work like this.
Every moment is like a frame in a continuing movie. Two frames next to each other look exactly the same, but there are slight differences.
This is process thinking. Present time is just one part of the larger context.
One frame can't tell you what's going to happen. If something is not in the frame, it may come along later.
Change happens in different ways.
Wherever you are now, it won't be like this forever.
"Okay. I'm in the confusion stage, but I won't always be here. I'm part of the process of the greater movie of the universe."
This way of thinking about time helps give us clearer reasons about why we need to find our power. (See last week's MoonLetter for more on power.)

Next week, on the Last Quarter Moon, we "Go Forth".
As I've already mentioned, I'm too excited about my new Joanna Macy-related work to wait until I get to the end of the workshop description to tell you all about it! :) So, if you've felt overwhelmed by the amount of information I've put in the last couple of MoonLetters, and perhaps the ones to come..., then please see the re-vamped My Moonster for something new! :)
peace&love
