Grandpa's Poem

Yes, I'm 10 today. :)
And my Grandpa Conley wrote me the following poem:

love to eat them mousies
mousies I love to eat
bite their little heads off
nibble on their tiny feet

Ex-fat cat wins pet slimmer prize

A massive moggy who lost 5kg in nine months was named Britain's pet slimmer of the year on Sunday.

Mischief, from Stevenage, lost 38% of his weight, slimming down to 6.3kg (14lb) after his size horrified vets.

"Mischief couldn't fit through the cat flap or even wash himself," Sharon Harding said of her six-year-old cat.

Mischief shared the award with Max, a black collie-Labrador who went from 55kg (8st 9lb) to 33kg (5st 3lb) in less than six months.

Max's owner, Maggs Gray, described the three-year-old as a "slim dog in a fat body" when she picked him up from an animal shelter.

Grossly overweight

She said he would just "waddle about" - but all he needed was an energetic owner and a new home.

"He was grossly overweight and he couldn't even do much exercise," said Ms Gray, from Milnathort in Tayside.

"He is naturally energetic and just needed the opportunity to exercise."

On the other hand, Mischief the cat "still borders on the lazy", according to Ms Harding.

Although she says he does climb trees and "moves around a lot more than he used to".

Ms Harding, who owns four other cats, said she didn't even notice how big he was until the vets pointed it out.

"He was the only fat one. The other cats were normal. He must have been eating all the food," she said.

Talking at the awards ceremony in St James's Park, central London, she said she "couldn't be prouder or happier".

The winners were each given a year's supply of pet food, £500-worth of pet accessories and £2,000 of holiday vouchers.

There is so much wrong with this story, we don't know where to begin...

diplomatic status

Papers on the history of the official Home Office cat were among 50,000 files delivered to the National Archives.

A series of cats from a humble mouser in 1929 to a pedigree feline who could not be sacked for "diplomatic" reasons have been employed.

The files were handed over under the Freedom of Information Act.

The records start in 1929 with a request for a penny a day from petty cash to feed the office cat .

After the cat, now known as Peter, had to be put down at the age of 17 in 1946, he was replaced by Peter II.

But he was run over in Whitehall and also had to be put down.

Toilet trained

He was replaced two months later by another kitten called Peter, who shot to stardom after appearing on BBC's Tonight programme in 1958.

In March 1964, at the age of 16, Peter succumbed to a liver infection and had to be put down.

As a replacement, the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle Man, Sir Ronald Garvey, sent one of the island's pedigree Manx cats - famous for their lack of tails.

The female kitten was named Peta in honour of her male predecessors,

When staff complained she was not toilet trained and lazy and suggested she might be "put out to grass", a memo was issued ordering she must remain.

Her appointment had been so public that she had gained "diplomatic status" and letting her go could result in adverse publicity, a memo from 1969 said.

There is no further mention of Peta until 1976 when the reply to an inquiry from a member of the public revealed she had retired to the country home of a member of staff.

Yes, we have diplomatic status too. Don't cause an incident or you'll be in big trouble.

something to be grateful for.

the only good news to come out of the last few days...

umm, we know you love us, but...

please don't do this.

it's just really spooky and we'd prefer to rest in peace when that time comes...

(speaking of which, i'd just like to say that i wish mom would let me rest in peace each night when, instead, she interrupts my comfortable sleep in the crook of her belly to get up and pee.)

a bad day

This morning, curled up in the nook my mom makes with her belly, I had an asthma attack. My second one in a few days. So... I had one of those red M&Ms shoved down my throat. And then while I was gently reminding the folks that it was OVER AN HOUR PAST MY BREAKFAST TIME I got whisked into the carrier and hauled off into the car.

Yes, the vet's. I was prodded and listened to. Then got an injection. Lovely. But luckily I was fed straight away upon arriving at home...

Oh and did I tell you that I really like pumpkin, chocolate chip cookies with walnuts? Fantastic!

Yes, well, my day wasn't much different. After chasing my brother around for a bit at 2am, I suddenly had an asthma attack, my third in nearly as many days. Great. But I couldn't believe it when, in the morning, Tenzin was the one carted off in the box to the vet's. Hooray! I thought.

But then afternoon came... And suddenly I was shut in the kitchen and things didn't look good at all. I tried to figure out how to open the kitchen door, to no avail. And then there I was: in the box, in the car, at the vet's. I thought for sure this was going to be a day-long trial, with me feeling like sh*t for 24 hours. But: whaddayaknow?? I was prodded a bit and that was all: back home in no time!

And I'd like to say that I like garlic butter: delicious and good for you too!

recuperation

Blimey! Mom fell down the stairs today and it took me a whole hour to recuperate from it! (I was standing at the bottom of the stairs when it happened!)
