Synopsis:
In our information-saturated lives, we’re bombarded with evidence of people and places being mistreated and suffering. Some respond with action, and grow weary with the extent of need. Others are concerned, but can’t fathom how they can make a difference. Many file the information away and live with a nagging desire to do something that matters. You’re invited to spend a weekend in retreat reflecting on biblical wisdom, interacting with others, and resting on your own. Our desire is to grow in our ability to communally care for the places in which we live in ways that are healthy, healing and holy.
Presenters:
David Anderson has worked as a biologist, wilderness guide, recreation instructor and now pastors at Cates Hill Chapel on Bowen Island. He has spoken for A Rocha Canada and L’Abri Canada in the areas of creation care and Christian ethics, and also teaches Ecology, Theology and Earthkeeping. He and his children can often be found in the woods seeking salamanders, wildflowers and pacific tree frogs.
Jennifer Scott, MA, ADTR, RCC, is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Ecotherapist offering a mind-body approach to counselling in her private practice. She is a Deacon and oversees the Earth Ministry at Hillside Church in North Vancouver. She has lead several retreats at Rivendell to support people’s deepening connection with creation and community. Roaming in the silence of the forests is one of her favourite pastimes.
